SPF:a RECEIVES RESIDENTIAL ARCHITECT MAGAZINE’S GRAND AWARD FOR HOME DESIGN.

Among a distinguished crowd of his architectural peers, Zoltan E. Pali, FAIA accepted the Grand Award – one of the evening’s highest honors at the 2006 Residential Architect Magazine “Best in Home Design” awards dinner, held during the national AIA conference in Los Angeles. “The project doesn’t have a fl aw,” cited one judge. ”I hate him for designing this so perfectly,” continued the warm commentary.

The energy-conserving structure uses passive siting and natural shading to reduce its dependence on mechanical environmental conditioning systems. Courtyards are sited to take advantage of prevailing breezes. Innovative uses of standard materials create much of the custom feel of this residence, where concept and design elevates the feel of every room. A sliding louvered screen in the Master bedroom uses an off-the-shelf, affordable aluminum frame (echoed elsewhere in the house) fi tted with aluminum louvers substituted for glass creating a unique application that seamlessly integrates with the clean lines of the house. The home received a Los Angeles AIA Award when it was completed in 2004, has been compared with the homes of the early California case study movement and has appeared LA Architect Magazine, the Los Angeles Times Magazine, Home Magazine, and a number of books featuring the world’s fi nest residential architecture.
