DA CAMERA SOCIETY “TUNES” THE SHARPE HOUSE AND PALI-FEKETE LOFT IN 2006

SPF:a’s long time friend and client, Steve Sharpe, hosted Los Angeles’ Da Camera Society for a dreamlike weekend afternoon of classical music and picture perfect weather. It was the first occasion on which the public was able to see the house that “belongs to” the Somis Hay Barn.

Over 200 people filled the grand foyer of the Sharpe Residence to hear two consecutive concerts by the Warsaw-based Szymanowski Quartet, called “one of the most charismatic quartets of their generation” by The Guardian. Quartets by Haydn (in F, Op. 77/2) and Dvorák (in Ab, Op. 105) inspired two standing ovations, and in between concerts art and architecture enthusiasts roamed the property and enjoyed the pastoral outing offered by the 40-acre site and lemon grove.

The event was such a success that the Da Camera Society hosted a subsequent concert at MODAA’s Pali-Fekete Residence, the home of the architects themselves. The delicious musical affair featured soloist Peter Stumpf, the Principal Cellist from the Los Angeles Philharmonic, serenading two consecutive audiences with three of Bach’s Cello Suites.
